On this Veterans Day, let us pause and salute all who have served. Let us honor the tremendous sacrifices made by the members of the U.S. armed forces and their families to preserve our freedom. They are our relatives, friends, neighbors, and co-workers.
This occasion also gives us an opportunity to honor the founding fathers of Waller Construction, our employees that have served in the armed forces, and those who help honor our veterans through volunteer work. The founder of Waller Construction, Robert J. Waller, Jr., served as an artillery officer in WW II and later retired from the National Guard as a Lieutenant Colonel. His sons, Robert J. Waller III and James H. Waller both served in the armed forces as well. Robert J. Waller III served in the Army and National Guard. James H. Waller served in the Marines and unfortunately paid the ultimate sacrifice, losing his life during the Vietnam war.
We would also like to thank our current employees for their service. One of our Commercial Project Managers, Sam Moore, served in the Army from 1969 to 1973 as a Field Artillery Officer and an Airborne Ranger serving in Gelnhausen, Germany for 3 years. He also served in the National Guard for two years as Captain Battery Commander of Service battery in Lake Wales. Our Business Developer, Brandi Peterson, served in the Army National Guard as a transportation specialist from 1994 to 2002. Her husband, Nathan served in the Infantry Division from 1993 to 2001.
At Waller, we also understand that you can be a hero for the Veteran Community without serving in uniform. Alyssa Giampoala, one of our Project Coordinators, is relentless when it comes to working with Habitat for Humanity on their new Lakeland area project that aims to provide housing to Veterans in need. When discussing the project, Alyssa said, “When I first heard about this project it almost brought me to tears. This is really important to me and how I want to give back to this community.” The Habitat for Humanity project is aiming to build at least 30 tiny homes for Veterans that are near homelessness or are living in substandard living conditions. If you would like to donate time, materials, or monetary donations to this project, please contact Habitat for Humanity or call Waller Construction at 863-688-8870 and ask for Alyssa.
We want to thank all Veterans and their families for their service to our country. May you all have a blessed weekend!
