What do you want and what is the budget?

Having a good idea of what you intend to do and planning a budget are two very important parts of getting started on any renovation project. If you are planning to renovate your bathroom, here are 6 things to think about before a bathroom remodel and prepare for first:

#1. Size Is Important in a bathroom remodel

bathroom design 6 Things To Think About Before A Bathroom RemodelMeasure the walls, floor, and space, before you start looking for bathroom fixtures. One of the most important things to consider before a bathroom remodel is how much space you have to deal with. When you see pictures of toilet fixtures on the Internet, you could believe that they are all the same size, but they do vary significantly in height, length, and width. Choosing the wrong size for the room can potentially have a detrimental effect on its functionality and its usability.

Try to think about how all the fixtures and furnishings will fit together in the room. Getting the dimensions wrong could lead to a slew of issues while you work on the project, and nobody wants to remove tile because a pipe was run in the wrong place.

#2. Design with Your Specific Requirements

When planning a bathroom remodeling project, it is crucial to understand how you usually use the space, how many people need to be able to access the sink or sinks, is this a family bathroom or just a downstairs hall bathroom, etc? Design features will change dramatically for someone who wants to use the bathroom more like a spa room,  than someone who just uses it to take a short shower. Make the bathroom exactly how you want to use it. You’ve lived in the house now for a period of time and know what you need and would like to upgrade

#3. Alternatives to think about

You have many choices of sinks, countertops, showers, toilets, tiling, to choose from in your bathroom and you may want to completely change the layout and design as a result of feature or lifestyle. At Waller Design we are experienced at guiding you on the options available, what works in the space and assisting you in making these decisions.

When it comes to sinks, think of how they will be mounted:

If you have a small bathroom and need more space, use a corner sink. This will maximize the space in the bathroom and allow other fixtures. cabinets to be fitted with enough room to make them functional.

#4. Keep the toilet hidden.

Include a wall to obstruct the view of the toilet from outside the bathroom in your renovation if possible. If space allows inside the bathroom, design the toilet inside its own space with a separate door. This can allow the bathroom to still be used for someone who wants to wash their hands or get something from a bathroom cabinet.  When the toilet is not in use, people often leave the door to the bathroom open. Concealing the toilet behind a separate space, wall, or even a cabinet, elevates the bathroom’s refinement.

#5. Design with Your Specific Requirements

When planning a bathroom remodeling project, it is crucial to understand how you usually use the space, how many people need to be able to access the sink or sinks, etc. Design features will change dramatically for someone who wants to use the bathroom more like a spa, for relaxing and unwinding, than someone who just uses it to take a short shower. Make a space that reflects your interests and needs. After all, you’re the one who’ll be using it.

#6. Trends and future Styles?

Another factor that many people are concerned with is how future homeowners would see their choice of the bathroom if they wish to sell their house in the future. which is why we choose the title 6 things to think about before a bathroom remodel. This last question usually comes up when someone is considering getting rid of a bathtub that they never use. If you are remodeling, then you should design to enjoy the space and not be worried about what investors would think unless you’re putting your house on the market right away. Trends change and consumers’ perspectives vary. Choose a style that brings you joy. To get what you really want, you will begin to think, “How much does it cost to remodel a bathroom?”
